In practice this means the best vision through optimal light quality. The headlamp levelling system adjusts the angle and thus the beam of the headlamp so that the road is suitably illuminated and there is no unnecessary dazzling of oncoming traffic. Environmental conditions play a major role in the accurate collection of data. For example an angle-of-rotation sensor that measures the vehicle's inclination (deflection values) and is used for level and/or headlamp levelling is placed virtually openly in the vehicle's suspension area and is thus exposed to adverse conditions in some cases. This makes the insensitivity of the rotation angle sensor to wetness and temperature changes all the more important. The actuating mechanism must be smooth-running and robust against mechanical effects and environmental influences. The actual movement is converted into a rotary movement by means of a metal or plastic connecting element via a rotor. The sensor measures the exact angle of rotation using the induction method. Based on the values the headlight range (bright/dark limit) of the headlights is regulated via the headlight range control unit using electrical actuators.
